Learning Objectives: Explain the philosophical theories that led to the writing of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution. Describe the basic principles of American democracy and how they are applied in our Republican form of government. Explain the checks and balances system created by the U.S. Constitution given to each branch. Analyze the relationship between the individual and the government in pursuit of social, political, and economic goals.
